Paris, March 29, 2016 - Nexedi and ViFiB celebrate one year of reliable deployment of SlapOS to run Teralab, the Big Data platform of Institut Mines Télécom which is at the core of multiple data science research and innovation activities of companies listed on Euronext. SlapOS has proven during one year to be the most efficient, universal and cost effective hyperconvergent operating system with a total operating cost of 40€ per server per month and the ability to support huge loads typical of big data.

Olivier Dehoux, TeraLab's technical director, explains: "Innovation, research and education in the Big Data area make demands on TeraLab through a large variety of use case. To support them, SlapOS is natively taking into account a wide spectrum of criteria including functional coverage, security, price, performance and maturity at bids analysis time. One year of operation confirmed our initial assessment and demonstrated the evolutivity of the solution, more over strengthened by the involvement and the agility of Nexedi development team. At this time, SlapOS has already made far more efficient our operations."

Jean-Paul Smets, CEO of Nexedi, adds: "Born in 2010, SlapOS is the only open source hyperconvergent operating system on the market. It can be used to build decentralized hybrid clouds, public clouds, big data platforms, IoT appstores, Software as a Service (SaaS) platforms or Platform as a Service (PaaS). SlapOS integrates build, test, provisionning, configuration, monitoring, resiliency, disaster recovery, accounting and billing. Its hyperconvergent model unifies compute, storage and network. Streamlined design based on autonomous computing provides unparalelled reliability and efficiency."

Rafael Monnerat, COO of ViFiB, concludes: "The simple and reliable design of SlapOS also translates into lower operarting costs. Any company willing to create their own big data platform can simply ask ViFiB to remotely operate it with 24/7 support for a total cost of 40€ per server and per month, without having to assign a dedicated team. The money saved by relying on ViFiB can then be invested in data sciences with tangible return on investment. All this is achieved using Free Software compatile with Open Compute Platform (OCP) generic hardware, even for routing, which vitually eliminates backdoors found in proprietary servers or routers."
